Adviser: Patricia Gallagher Newberry
Patti joined the Miami University Journalism Program faculty in 1997 and was appointed a senior lecturer in 2011. In addition to teaching an array of journalism classes from introductory to senior capstone courses and advising the Miami chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, she coordinates special events and internships, chairs the Committee on Student Organizations, and advises MQ magazine. Patti spent 15 years in newspapers, working as reporter, editor, and columnist for 10 papers in seven states, mostly as a business journalist. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Patti lives in Cincinnati with her husband, three teenagers, and Junior, the best basset hound in the world.
President: Amanda Schumaker
A junior Journalism and History double major from Delaware, Ohio, Amanda is a features writer for MQ magazine and GreenHawks Media. She is a resident assistant in Dorsey Hall, a student ambassador, and a former intern of the Delaware Gazette. Amanda has covered sports, politics, environmental issues, and features. An enthusiastic Columbus Crew fan, Amanda hopes to intern with their Media and Marketing Department in the spring.
VP of Programming: Shannon Pesek
Shannon is a junior double major in Journalism and Creative Writing from Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She is the Arts and Entertainment Editor for MQ magazine and a member of Alpha Delta Pi.
Treasurer: Ariana Williams
Ariana, a senior Journalism and Sustainability double major, lived in Tacoma, Washington until her sophomore year at Miami University when he family moved to Woodsfield, Ohio where they practice sustainable methods on the family farm. She is spending the summer of 2012 studying abroad in Kosovo working with Kosova Live, a local online news source published in Albanian and English. Ariana is the News Editor for GreenHawks Media and a freelancer for the Oxford Press.
Secretary: Megan Conley
Megan is a sophomore Journalism and English Literature double major. A Harrison Scholar from Louisville, Kentucky, Megan is interested in feature writing and editing after graduation. Megan is a member of the Miami University Junior Varsity Synchronized Skating team, allowing her to compete at multiple cities in Michigan and Massachusetts. She also represented Team USA at the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria. When Megan is not skating, she is involved with The Bridge Church and Omicron Delta Kappa.
